An Edits Assistant alternative for Instagram creators
Guide Published October 15, 2026
Edits Assistant is a free AI chat tool inside Instagram’s Edits app that reads your Instagram numbers, including video retention, and suggests video concepts, hooks, captions and scripts. As of October 2026 it is rolling out to US users only, with a daily prompt limit. If you can’t get it, or you want strategy and scripts written in your own voice, ClipScore is an alternative that runs in a web browser and whose sign-up isn’t limited by country.
What Edits Assistant is
Edits Assistant is an AI chat tool inside Edits, Meta’s video editing app for Instagram creators. You ask it questions about your account in plain language, and it answers from your own Instagram data.
Instagram announced it on 30 September 2026 in a post by Brett Westervelt, who leads the Edits app. Meta had named it about two weeks earlier, in its Meta One announcement, as a coming tool for reading your Instagram insights and finding new ideas.
What it reads
According to Instagram’s launch post, it works from your account’s metrics, such as follows, views, video retention, likes and shares. It combines those with your comments, what is trending on Instagram and your audience’s interests.
Edits is a separate app from Instagram, so it has to be linked to your Instagram account before the assistant can reach that data, as TechRepublic reported.
What it suggests
- Video concepts, hooks, captions and scripts based on your own track record.
- Answers to questions like what connected with your audience this month, or why one Reel held attention and another didn’t.
- Trending audio that fits your niche, which you can save straight from the chat.
- Refinements based on how different versions of your trial reels performed.
Instagram frames it as a tool that handles the research and analysis while the creative decisions stay with you. So expect analysis and suggestions, not a finished Reel.
What it costs
As of October 2026, it is free inside Edits with a daily prompt limit. Instagram says power users will soon be able to get more usage with a Meta One subscription. Meta’s Meta One announcement describes an Edits Plus plan, coming to Meta One, with more cloud storage and extra use of the assistant, and says plans and prices can vary by region, so check the app for what applies to you.
Who can use Edits Assistant right now
As of October 2026 coverage, Edits Assistant is rolling out to Edits users in the US only. TechRepublic reported that Meta hasn’t said when it will reach other countries.
If you are in the US and want to try it:
- Install or update the Edits app on your phone. It is on Android and iOS.
- Link Edits to the Instagram account you want the assistant to read.
- Open Edits and tap the chat icon.
- Ask a plain question, such as what has been working on your account lately.
If you’re in the US and still can’t see it
A rollout doesn’t always reach every account on the same day. Update the app, check that Edits is linked to the right Instagram account, and look again later. If you ask a lot of questions in one day, you may also reach the daily prompt limit.
If you’re outside the US
As of October 2026, if you live outside the US you can’t get Edits Assistant, and Meta hasn’t announced a date. You don’t have to wait, though. The job it does, reading your results and suggesting what to make next, can be done three other ways.
1. Read your own Insights with a plan
Many of the numbers Edits Assistant works from, like views, likes, shares and follows, are also in your Instagram Insights, and you can read them yourself. The work is in comparing each Reel with your own usual results rather than staring at totals. Our guide on how to audit your Instagram walks through it step by step.
2. Paste your numbers into a general chatbot
ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini can’t see your account, but they can sort a table of your Reels and find patterns if you paste it in. The questions in the next section work there too. Using AI for social media covers how to give a chatbot enough context to say something specific about you.
3. Use an assistant that works anywhere
ClipScore runs in a web browser, so there is no app to install, and its sign-up isn’t limited by country. It is built for Instagram creators and covered in detail further down this page.
What to ask any AI assistant about your Reels
Whichever tool you use, the answers are only as good as the questions. Vague questions get advice that could fit anyone. Questions tied to your own Reels get advice you can act on this week.
Questions worth asking
- Which three of my recent Reels did best against my usual views, and what do they have in common?
- Which Reel held attention longest, and what happens in its first three seconds that doesn’t happen in my weakest one?
- Which topics get the most shares and saves per view, not just the most views?
- What do people ask about in my comments that I haven’t made a Reel about yet?
- Which of my hooks make a specific promise, and which are vague?
- What should I stop making, and which Reels tell you that?
- Give me three Reel ideas built on what already works for me, each with a first line and a first frame.
How to judge the answers
- Ask it to name the Reel behind each claim. A pattern with no examples is a guess.
- Judge against your own median views, not outside benchmarks. A Reel at twice your usual is a win even if the number looks small.
- Push back on advice that could fit any account, like “be authentic” or “post more consistently.” Ask what it means for your niche.
- Treat a handful of Reels as a hint, not a rule. One Reel that takes off can skew everything.
- Change one thing per Reel where you can, so you know which change made the difference.
A starting prompt
If your tool can’t read your account, paste your numbers under this and adjust it:
Act as a direct, specific Reels coach. Use only the data I give you, and tell me when something can’t be judged from it. Find my median views per Reel and rank my Reels against it. Compare my three best and three weakest Reels on hook, first frame, topic, length and pacing. Name the Reel behind every claim. End with three changes to test and three Reel ideas that build on what already works for me.
Chat tools can slip on arithmetic, so check the median against your own sheet. For the opening seconds in more depth, see our guide to Reel hooks. If your views have dropped and you want to rule out the common causes first, start with why your Reels aren’t getting views.
ClipScore as an Edits Assistant alternative
ClipScore is an AI growth assistant for Instagram creators. It reads your account and your niche, finds content ideas that fit your style, and writes strategy and scripts in your voice. It runs in a web browser and covers Instagram only, including Reels. It is made by ClipScore, Inc., which is not affiliated with Meta or Instagram.
The free account audit
The free Instagram account audit reads your recent Reels and, once at least five of them have view counts, writes up what is working and what to look at next. It works on public accounts and is free.
It works from your public Reels, so it can’t see private Insights such as retention. That is one place where Edits Assistant, made by Instagram, has more to work with.
Your creator type and niche
The free creator personality test is 29 questions, scored in your browser. It returns one of 16 creator types, the niche that fits you, a posting plan with Reels per week and length, your first three Reel ideas, and what to fix first. Half of the types work without showing your face.
Video Analysis in your chat
In ClipScore, you can pick one of your own Reels, or upload a video, and ask about it. Pro adds Reel breakdowns: what worked, what didn’t, and how to remake it. For more on reading a single Reel, see our guide to analyzing an Instagram Reel.
Strategy, scripts and plans
The chat needs an account. The Free plan has limited usage and includes a quick audit of your account, strategy, scripts and a posting calendar, and chat with ClipScore about ideas, hooks and what to post. Your first few strategies and scripts come at premium quality.
Pro, at $39 a month or $390 a year, gives premium quality on every strategy and script, a full audit that stays current as you post, Reel breakdowns, advice checked against how your posts actually did, and answers shaped by creators matched to you. The pricing page has the full list.
ClipScore treats other creators as inspiration. It studies why a format works and writes original content in your voice, rather than copying anyone’s scripts.
Edits Assistant and ClipScore compared
Here is how the two line up as of October 2026. They start from different places, so neither is a straight swap for the other.
- Who makes it: Edits Assistant is made by Instagram and lives inside Meta’s own Edits app. ClipScore is made by ClipScore, Inc.
- Where it runs: Edits Assistant runs inside the Edits app. ClipScore runs in a web browser, with nothing to install.
- Who can use it: Edits Assistant is rolling out to US users only, with no date announced for other countries. ClipScore’s sign-up isn’t limited by country.
- Cost: Edits Assistant is free with a daily prompt limit, and Instagram says Meta One will soon add more usage. ClipScore has a Free plan with limited usage, a free account audit, and Pro at $39 a month.
- What it reads: Edits Assistant reads first-party Instagram data, including video retention, follows and shares, plus your comments, trends and audience interests. ClipScore reads your account and niche, and its free audit works from your public Reels.
- What you get: Edits Assistant suggests video concepts, hooks, captions, scripts and trending audio from your track record. ClipScore writes strategy, scripts and a posting calendar in your voice, and its creator test gives you a creator type, a niche and a posting plan.
- Video: Edits Assistant sits inside the app where you edit, so ideas and editing are in one place. In ClipScore you can pick one of your Reels, or upload a video, and ask about it.
Where Edits Assistant has the edge
- It is made by Instagram and reads first-party numbers, such as retention, that a tool working from your public Reels can’t see.
- It is free inside an app many creators already use to edit.
- Ideas, trending audio and editing sit in one app, and you can save audio straight from the chat.
Where ClipScore has the edge
- It works in a web browser and isn’t limited to the US.
- It writes strategy and scripts in your voice, plus a posting calendar.
- Its creator test gives you a creator type, a niche and a posting plan, which helps if you are still working out what your account is for.
- You can upload a video in your chat and ask about it.
Why you might use both
If you are in the US, you don’t have to choose. The two tools answer different questions, and a simple loop uses each for what it does best:
- Ask Edits Assistant what has been working: which Reels held attention, which topics got shared, what your comments keep asking for.
- Take those findings into a ClipScore chat and build them into a strategy and scripts in your voice, matched to your creator type and niche.
- Film and edit the Reel in Edits or your usual editor, and post it.
- Check the result in both: Edits Assistant against your numbers, and ClipScore’s Video Analysis on that Reel.
- Repeat, changing one thing at a time, and compare each Reel with your own usual views.
If you are in the US and only want quick ideas grounded in your own numbers, Edits Assistant may be all you need, and it costs nothing to try. If you want a written plan and scripts, a read on what kind of creator you are, or you live somewhere it hasn’t reached yet, ClipScore covers that.
Neither tool can promise views. What both can do is turn each Reel into a clearer test, so your next one is a decision rather than a guess.
Questions
- What is Edits Assistant on Instagram?
- Edits Assistant is an AI chat tool inside Meta’s Edits app that reads your Instagram data and suggests what to make next. Instagram says it draws on metrics like views, video retention, likes and shares, plus your comments, trends and audience interests, and suggests concepts, hooks, captions and scripts.
- Is Edits Assistant free?
- Yes, as of October 2026 it is free inside the Edits app with a daily prompt limit. Instagram says power users will soon be able to get more usage through a Meta One subscription.
- Why is Edits Assistant not available for me?
- The most likely reason is where you live: as of October 2026 it is rolling out to Edits users in the US only, and Meta hasn’t announced other countries. If you are in the US, update Edits, link it to your Instagram account and look for the chat icon, since a rollout can take time to reach every account.
- Is there an Edits Assistant alternative outside the US?
- Yes, ClipScore runs in a web browser and its sign-up isn’t limited by country. Its free account audit reads your recent Reels and, once at least five of them have view counts, writes up what is working and what to look at next. You can also paste your Insights into a general chatbot such as ChatGPT or Claude and ask the questions in this guide.
- Does Edits Assistant edit my videos for me?
- Not as Instagram describes it: the company says it handles the analysis while the creative calls stay with you. It suggests concepts, hooks, captions, scripts and audio, and the editing itself is still yours to do in Edits.
- Is Edits Assistant or ClipScore better?
- Neither is better for everyone, because they do different jobs. Edits Assistant is free, made by Instagram and reads first-party numbers like retention. ClipScore works in a browser outside the US and writes strategy and scripts in your voice. In the US, many creators may get the most from using both.
- Can ChatGPT analyze my Instagram Reels?
- Only from what you give it, because ChatGPT can’t log in to your account or see your Insights on its own. Paste in your numbers per Reel and transcripts of your best and weakest ones, then ask it to name the Reel behind every claim.
